was possessed by the spirt of Quint at this time. The Governess taunts the ghost by saying, “but he
is lost to you forever!” The thought of not having the boy for his evil ways thus made him again
possess the boy and take his life. The Governess has lost the battle with the spirts at Bly, and more
importantly, lost the children that she had grown to love very much.
