Both movements were equally effective, though, as each achieved its main goal, freedom. While only the abolitionists sought actual physical freedom, both they and the suffragettes sought equal rights with all citizens. Preserving freedom and equal rights for all is an ongoing pursuit, however, and requires constant vigilance and effort by all.
