Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, in 1879, and spent his youth in Munich, where his family owned a small shop that manufactured electric machinery. He finished high school in Switzerland, then entered the Swiss National Polytechnic in Zurich. He often cut classes and used the time to study physics or to play the violin. It was a letter to Bertrand Russell, world renowned peace advocate, in which he agreed that his name should go on a declaration urging all nations to give up nuclear weapons. One of his last acts was to argue, as he has done all his life, for world peace.
Albert Einstein died April 18, 1955 in Princeton, New Jersey.
