Flannery also tries to portray a message to the reader of self-realization. Flannery tells the reader that everyone must face up to their opinions and their hatreds, but Flannery is also asking: “Do you want to come to terms with your opinions and hatreds yourself, or have them thrown in your face by someone else for judgment?”
