Hammurabi’s Code
Hammurabi’s Code was very strict. The punishment for breaking the laws was different for each social class. The codes were based on three social groups, the nobles, freemen, and slaves. Crimes committed against a person of high social status were punished more than someone of low social status. These laws seem very harsh, but justice was shown in these laws. A trial was held if you were accused of a crime that was punishable by death. If a husband wanted a divorce from his wife he was required to pay money back to her, which is something that is common in everyday life today.
