Hitler came to power in 1933 due to a combination of events, some due to his political ability, others due to luck. An important reason for Hitler’s rise to power was the Treaty of Versailles. This made Germany the biggest party, but they didn’t have a majority. However, Hitler could still demand a chancellorship.
With the help of Franz Von Papen, a crafty but not very intelligent right-wing nobleman, Hitler became chancellor in January 1933, with Von Papen as vice-chancellor. Hitler had succeeded in using the Treaty of Versailles to attack and undermine the government, and was now in a position to seize more power and destroy the Weimar government.
