Society cheats, as the duke and king cheated the Wilks family and society is unmerciful as Pap is to Huck. I think the author was trying to show that society is highly imperfect and the moral of society is not necessarily just moral. Society is conformity and Twain was showing that conformity does not mean perfection but that it is corrupt and somewhat evil.
