Martin Luther King JR 2
When Martin Luther King Jr. participated in the march to protest against
segregation (1963), he was arrested and put into the jail in Birmingham, Alabama,
on grounds that there was no permit for the parade. Eight local clergymen
published their objections to the protest in the local newspaper. The clergymen
had proclaimed, “But we are convinced that these demonstrations are unwise and
untimely,” (716). King then replies to their arguments with his famous Letter
From Birmingham Jail.

King’s Letter From Birmingham Jail leaves the reader with a clear definition of
just and unjust laws. It also leaves many examining themselves to see if they were
really making a difference in this movement, or if they were being lukewarm. It
still calls for the reader to take a stand for what is right.
