Emperor. In the course of his missions, he had a chance to meet Italian rulers and so he had an opportunity to study their political tactics. When the republic dissolved and the Medici family regained power in Florence in 1512, Machiavelli’s job was taken away from him and was imprisoned temporarily for presumed conspiracy against the Medici family. When he was released, he retired and started working on his writings that are now famous today.
