In conclusion, Sophocles justifies the ways of the gods by proving that the gods had good reason to punish Oedipus. He attempted to escape his predestined fate, and in doing this created hostile gods who were out to seek revenge. This just reinforces the ideas that the all mighty powerful gods do exist and need to be respected the same way they have been respected in the past.
