In a sense, both characters have won the battle in which they fought. Nurse Ratchet got McMurphy’s influence to stop, and McMurphy got what influence he had to remain within the ward. It was ironic that Nurse ratchet had a neck brace on, because even though McMurphy is gone, his mark remained.
