From 1955-65 nursing changed from functional nursing to team nursing. 1975-85 it changed from team nursing to Primary nursing/total patient care. In 1990s changed focus to cost and efficiency and since 2000 we have a shortage crisis.

Perhaps nursing education should be more hands on so that when we are finally ready to go out there on our own we can really be experienced to take total care of patients. Or maybe hospitals should consider making programs that can give students early work opportunity to get a head start so they can gain the experience on their own. So far there is no research on education of nurses related to patients.
