Most classic movies have their resolution in the same place that the problem at hand starts; Strangers on a Train is no different in that respect. When Bruno murders Miriam at the carnival he initiates Guys dilemma. The final scene of the movie in which Bruno gives back the lighter symbolizes the end of Guys conflict within, hence the films resolution.
