John Proctor confesses verbally to the court but does not sign the confession papers. Due to not signing the papers John’s confession is disregarded and he is sentenced to death. He accepts his crime when he speaks to Elizabeth for the last time, but Elizabeth continues to persuade John to confess but he does not listen.
