In the beginnning of the Fredrick Douglass's novels, he imposes a question on the matter of him being deprived of same privilages . In Edna's case, she does not question her place but is confused with her identity . Therefore their " revolutionizing nature" is understandable to them through remembering their own childhood experiences .
