Whether or not Ned had actually gone through his travels, or if they were created in his mind are still unclear as the story ends, but either way, it is quite obvious that Ned failed to watch at where his life was going, and suddenly found himself without anything. And the truly sad part about his losses is that Ned can’t even remember what had happened.
