Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome, or more simply Tourette’s, is a neurological disorder classified on Axis I of the DSM-IV. It is an inherited disease characterized by tics—involuntary, rapid, sudden movements or vocalizations that occur repeatedly in the same way (“TSF”). Currently, no cure for Tourette Syndrome has been found. There is a chance, however, that the symptoms of the disorder can go into remission. Of those who suffer from Tourette Syndrome, 25% may be symptom free for a few years, but only 8% of these patients have complete and permanent remission (Cramer, 3). Many patients do improve as they grow older, and some patients recover completely after their teens.
