Lockwood is not a reliable narrator for a few reasons. He misinterprets things often, he’s quick to make assumptions, and he’s overly social, which makes people become unwilling to talk or listen to him for a long period of time, unless the person is his servant Nelly Dean. Although the last characteristic makes Lockwood the perfect person for Nelly to tell the story too, it does not make him a reliable narrator.

In conclusion, Lockwood does not serve as a very reliable narrator because of the type of person he is. He is very curious, which is not necessarily a bad trait, but instead of finding out the information he wants to know, he just assumes it from his observations. His assumptions and his persistent need to socialize with people, especially those who are somewhat antisocial, is what makes him an unreliable narrator.
