Being much of a tomboy growing up on our farm in Door County my father figured that I was probably the only thing close to a son that he might ever have. He had always wanted a son but 5 tries and no luck. Now surrounded by girls aging from 19 to 7 he hoped that I might be a good substitute so he always encouraged my tomboyish behavior.

…showed last 75 words of 1479 total…had hurt me by sending his young daughter into the scary woods without a worry. Since then I have become less and less of a tomboy. Maybe it is just growing up or maybe it is a conscious effort to be who I want to be and not what my father wants me to be. Quite possibly all I ever craved was freedom from my father and this incident gave me the way out.
