Teaching basic chess skills to students with disabilities teaches them high-level thinking skills, independent critical thinking, an understanding of cause and effect, patience, self-reliance, spacial, numerical, administrative-directional, problem solving skills, classifying, associating, concentration, sequencing, analysis, judgment, and reasoning.
