This is a language that constantly loses words instead of gaining them. Orwell believed that if a government could control language, than it could control thought. Without a word for freedom, its concept could not exist. Orwell was writing about a scary, futuristic reality where the government controls every aspect of citizen's lives- including their access to the truth.
